This book was excellent, and lays out several counter intuitive points from what one would expect from a book entitled "Nihilism".

Firstly, Stevens explains that nihilism is not fatalism or an abandonment of responsibility. Instead, it is acknowledging reality in the grand sense and bending ourselves to reality, instead of trying to force ideological constructs and failing over and over.

Secondly, Stevens' then recommends idealism, the idea that once our minds have adequately mapped to reality (by throwing out the ideological nonsense we have been taught), one can begin to change ourselves to become more compliant with reality, and in doing so, understand that our minds and reality are fundamentally connected, and both can be shaped. Once our ideals are in compliance with reality, and are derived from reality, then the nihilist can begin shaping both. The shaping process of the nihilist mind is used to enhance reality -like a judo athlete using an opponent's weight against him, the nihilist can begin to use reality to enhance his or her own values- expressing beauty, truth, and goodness in a vital, living way, instead of the deathly rigidity that ideology attempts.

Ultimately, this is a book about mapping to reality, instead of mistaking the map for the terrain. Once reality is acknowledged, and one's mind is shaped towards accepting it, many more things become clear, such as the value of heroism, metaphysical objectivism, moral relativism (relative to reality), inequality, and the beauty and necessity of the constant pressure of natural selection. Steven's book also makes a convincing case for Traditionalism, as the same Reality (in the way Ibn Arabi uses the term Al-Haqq) under-girds and supports each path that worships it and takes it as primary, and preceding, human existence and human ideas. This book is a profoundly anti-humanist and anti-liberal work, but it begins in its basic assumptions from a place one would normally associate with radical left-wing ideologies. The journey from mind-killing beginnings to the quest for the good, true, and beautiful is quite interesting.

About the Author
DR. REX RUSSELL is a board-certified invasive radiologist. A former three-year letterman in football at Oklahoma State, Dr. Russell now spends his time in the areas of vascular radiology, which uses angioplasty to open up vessels suffering from hardening or blockage. He attended medical school at Baylor University in Houston, TX, and completed his residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He has practiced at two of the nation's outstanding hospitals, St. Luke's Hospital in Houston and the Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas, where he and his wife, Judy, make their home.

This will change your life!

I have been a diabetic for twenty years. My spouse was experiencing some health problems. We read this book looking for how a change in diet might help. We liked the way Dr. Russell explained both the divine wisdom and the scientific evidence behind the information he presents. He persuaded us to change WHAT we eat. Now that I eat the right foods, I eat as much as I want. My obesity is melting away (without increasing my excersize - which I still need to do!) I feel better, look better and even think better. My eye sight is improving. The quality of my life is better. My triglycerides dropped from 245 to 85 six weeks after implementing the changes even though I still eat fats, though only the RIGHT fats. I have bought multiple copies of this book and give them to everyone I know... READ THIS BOOK. YOUR LIFE WILL BE BETTER!!!

Excellent treatment of Biblical teachings

Dr. Russell presents three main principles for healthy living. They are: "I: Eat only substances created for food. II: Eat foods as they were created. III: Don't let any food or drink become your god." In the rest of the book he then elaborates on these three principles.
In regards to the first, he quotes verses where God specifically gives certain foods to human beings for food. He then presents a list of foods mentioned in the Bible. And later in the book he goes into further details on each of these foods and the health benefits science is now showing are associated with eating them. One point he dwells on is the distinction between clean and unclean meats.
He notes some of the health problems that have been caused by people eating unclean meats. He also includes an interesting chart of clean and unclean meats. Besides each kind of meat is an indication of it's toxicity level. All clean meats have much lower levels of toxins than unclean meats. However, these toxicity levels are taken from a study done in 1953. It would be helpful if a more recent study were cited.
In regards to the second principle, he first enlarges it beyond food to look at what God said about aspects of healthy living besides food. He notes that God's directives in regards to personal hygiene and sex give health benefits to the person following them. Then later he looks at foods. He notes that the processing of foods, such as turning whole grains into refined grains, "strips away" many of the nutrients God placed in the original whole foods.
In regards to principle III, he notes the many problems that addictions to food and other substances can cause a person.
Overall, this book is excellent. Russell presents a lot of Scripture verses and supporting scientific research for what the Bible teaches. It is similar to my book "Creationist Diet: Nutrition and God-given Foods According to the Bible." Reading these two books together would give the reader a good grasp of what the Bible teaches about nutrition and how science is finally catching up to the Bible's teachings.

Real wisdom for better health through healthy foods

Russell shares his experience and medical knowledge with insight, and especially important for convincing the skeptics, the background information on WHY foods help or hinder our bodies.

Listed are grains and legumes, and the vital nutrients contained in them.

Listed are meats/seafood that are declared clean and unclean in the Bible, and more helpfully, the understanding of why they would be unhealthy back then and now.

The understanding and knowledge was very helpful in changing my mind about my diet. My mom always tried to get me to eat gross bread, for instance, because it was healthier. I didn't want anything to do with it. Now I am motivated to find enjoyable ways to eat healthy grains, more beans, and reduce animal fat in my diet because of God's plan for health.

Another aspect of the book is the testimonies included about adults and children recovering from ailments after changes in diet. Russell mentions many different types of ailments that doctors generally don't know what to do about, and how reducing processed sugars/flours and adding fiber through fruits and vegetables greatly helped people.

My wife's response as we read some of the book together was, "Why doesn't everybody know this?"

Indeed, if we all wanted healthy bodies, we would change our eating habits, but, we've known that for a long time. This book teaches the HOW of healthy eating.

About the Author
Maria Francisca Paredes Mendez is a native speaker from Spain and teaches Spanish at Western Washington University. Her doctorate focuses on Spanish literature from the 20th century. She is the author of the Temas and Plazas CD-ROMs.

Mark Harpring teaches Spanish at the University of Puget Sound. He is the author of the Mosaicos testing program and holds a Ph.D. in Nineteenth-Century Spanish literature.

Jose Ballesteros teaches at St. Mary's College of Maryland and his Ph.D. is on Golden Age Spanish literature.

Great Book for Spanish Language/Literature Teachers

I used this textbook for one of my Spanish courses at CSULB. This book has just about everything you need to know about the famous authors in Spain. If you are planning to be a Spanish teacher, I recommend you to buy this book because it gives you not only the writings of these famous authors, but also their biographies, which then gives the teacher an opportunity to go over some of the history in Spain.

La utilizacion de este libro me ha llevado a aprender nuevas cosas de la lengua y a leer la lengua antigua. es complicado aveces en su lectura, pero con el paso del tiempo te acostumbras y descubre los senderos que este gran texto te puede ofrecer. Muy bueno para utilizar como referencia en clases de Literatura Espa�ola y Gramataica Espa�ola. con este libro obtuve 90% en mi clase de Literatura. Maginifico libro...

This was a great Spanish literature book. It wasn't an easy read depending on the author but I enjoyed many of the stories that we read. It pulls in lots of different authors.

1- Adopting an agreed-on maturity model to assess the data capabilities (pillars) in more objective way.
2- More Elaboration on how to calculate the RoI of an enterprise information.
3- Higher quality figures and diagrams.

Without a doubt this lecture/essay summarizes deftly the haunting iterations of Antisemitism as principal cornerstones to our understanding of our civilization and our discontentment with the ways things are. In many respects the inversion in Jacobson's title reveals the irony in the hatred of the Jews.
