Delightfully Different Xmas Tale

Dean Koontz is my favorite writer, so despite my daughter only being 2, I had to get this for her. It has gorgeous illustrations and rhyming text. Santa's twin brother decides to tie Santa up and ruin Xmas. He's tired of being outshined by his brother, Santa and decides to make everyone hate him instead. He lands in a house and leaves horrible presents and ruins their house but his plans are foiled by the two sisters who live there. They overhear what he's done and decide they are the only ones who can save Santa. They rescue Santa and scold his evil twin. Why what would your mother think, they ask him and he realizes the err of his ways. This book is fun reading with wacky descriptions and imaginable ryhmes. The last page asks you if you noticed all the snowmen hiding on each page. They watch over us and report back to Santa. How else would Santa know who's been naughty or nice. My sister and mother in law had a blast trying to find the snowmen. This is a wonderful Xmas tale thet kids will delight in. It isn't scary at all, it's more comical.

My daughter loved this book as a child. It was lost, and we found a replacement. May not be appropriate for really young kids.

Koontz never ceases to impress me

I'm 36 and bought the book for myself! It will be an annual Christmas Eve tradition. I read it to my two nieces - 8 & 11 - and they enjoyed almost as much as i did. I especially loved the line - "they could do it. They were sisters" since I love to stress the importance of this relationship to these sisters. The humor he uses throughout makes it a joy to read again and again. the illustrations are gorgeous - and we had fun searching for the artist's signature within the artwork.

but I tried my best to find it

A comprehensive book with a lot of information about different branches of Chinese Metafysics.

I'm a student in Bazi and the main reason I purchased this book was to find the accurate transition dates for each year.
Bazi uses solar calendar system and the transition date for the months vary.
When it varies it's usually +1 or -1 day.

My only complaint is I can't seem to find the transition dates for every month.
There is an example explained on how to find the correct month.
On page 55 it is stated that all transition dates for the months of the Solar calendar system are highlighted.
I checked different pages, so different years. None of the transition dates are hightlighted.
This was the main reason I purchased this book. So basically it's a waste of money for me.

This book is a product that is made on mass production, so this would mean that no Bazi practitioner can use this book
to check for the accurate transition date of the Bazi months.

It wasn’t until well into the twentieth century that humor gained even a semblance of respect. Comic Relief goes a great way toward ameliorating this injustice. In it, noted philosophical humor writer John Morreall develops a comprehensive theory that integrates psychological, aesthetic, and ethical issues relating to humor. He also presents and critiques the standard Superiority, Incongruity, and Relief Theories of humor, revealing how they not only fail to explain its nature, but actually support traditional prejudices against humor. While utilizing elements from traditional theories of humor, Morreall goes into much greater depth about the opposition between amusement and emotions, the cognitive and practical disengagement in humor, the psychological and social benefits of humor, and the comic vision of life itself. The Psychology of Humor

This was a required book for a class, The Psychology of Humor, that I took as a humanities requirement. But, it is not like a textbook, at all. It is a very interesting view of how we use humor and laughter. He also tells the history of humor, and I learned a lot of interesting things about humor that I didn't expect to learn. It is much better than the textbook that was also required for the class.

a comprehensive *history* of philosophies of humor--not a philosophy though

A friend recommended this book so I thought I'd check it out--I'm really interested in humor and jokes but it's hard to find a satisfactory, richly developed theory of laughter. Plenty of people have tried, and the first chapters, which exhaustively list various thinkers' attempts to theorize laughter throughout history and also point out their flaws and shortcomings, are very useful and illuminating. But John Morreall doesn't offer a theory to outdo them. It seems like he's mainly restating the obvious parts of other thinkers' work (he says in the intro that he's a public speaker and consultant who gives talks to corporate meetings about humor--and the way he writes and thinks seems better suited to that kind of work than producing the "comprehensive philosophy" that the title promises). Maybe I wasn't reading close enough into his ideas, but I really lost interest when he spent several pages trying to explain why a rape joke isn't offensive.

Michael F. Bird (Ph.D., University of Queensland) is lecturer in theology at Crossway College and honorary research associate at the University of Queensland in Australia. He is the author of Jesus and the Origins of the Gentile Mission and The Saving Righteousness of God: Studies on Paul, Justification, and the New Perspective. He is also co-moderator of the New Testament blog "Euangelion."

Succinct Survey of the Sources

It is known that early Christianity (1) was a sect of Judaism; and (2) had a strong emphasis on evangelism from the beginning. This raises a question: Did Christianity inherit its evangelistic emphasis from Judaism, or was this emphasis a trait that distinguished Christianity from the rest of Judaism?

Bird's book gives a succinct survey of the relevant ancient sources and also summarizes today's scholarly discussion on this question. Largely in agreement with Scot McKnight and Martin Goodman, Bird concludes that first-century Judaism (1)defended itself in the ancient marketplace of ideas; (2) was open to Gentile converts; but (3) didn't have an organized "missionary" outreach to the pagan world.

At the end of the book, Bird hints that Christianity's distinctive emphasis on evangelism can be attributed to the teachings of Jesus and its conviction, based on those teachings, that the time had come for the fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecies about the nations joining Israel in the eschatological kingdom of God.

The book includes a convenient "sourcebook" of relevant quotes from primary sources like Josephus, Philo, the Talmud, Greco-Roman writers, and the New Testament.

Make me question everything. After reading this book I questioned reality, sensations, and even my own existence. I am now trapped in the vortex of time all by myself for about 1000 years now, so I would say this is a great book. Or is it? What makes it a great book? What is a great book? What is a book? What is life? What is reality? Why am i a philosophy major? What am i going to do with my life now? Why am i writing a funny review on Amazon instead of studying for my finals so I can stop disappointing my parents?

Though I believe intellectualism is a created title for dolts and boring minds, I also believe we need to understand ourselves, & each other. Descartes is THE place to begin if you have a true interest in that understanding, & your possible place in the world you inhabit. This book is a good translation of two great works. Reading this publication presents a fresh opportunity to look at everything from a new & clearer perspective. Written in a simple essay format, it allows consideration and contemplation of the text, rather than the draining involvement of putting it all together.
