Best book on Nudibranchs I have seen.

I bought this book, the hardback edition, back in 2009 and was lucky to have my copy signed by Mr.Coleman himself before he died. I think it cost me about AUS$75:00 so I was shocked to see the price that the hardback is currently selling for. Is this a mistake? Furthermore my edition is 416 pages long and contains 3000 photographs. Once again I was very surprised to see the 2nd edition being sold with fewer pages and not as many photographs. Why is this? One would imagine that newer editions would get larger not smaller.

Awesome book

Well worth the money for this Intriguing book. I scuba dive in Okinawa Japan where it is home to some of the most beautiful nudibranches around. Being a avid diver and a nudibranch hunter this book has helped me I.D over 90 species. I love that the book is for the tropical pacific so that it can I.D nudibranches from this region. No complaints and a must buy.

Very nice revision to a classic.

I have been using the previous edition for ID when in Indonesia for years. I left a copy on the dive boat and it is so dog eared and worn I bought this to replace it next time we go. With the taxonomic revisions and updates I decided I need to buy another copy to take as I want to keep this one for my own library.

Powerful insights into an elites failure of imagination

An eye opening book. Details how the British ruled the colonial Sudan by helping create and educated, at the Gordon Memorial College (present day University of Khartoum), a technocratic class of lower level clerks and minor civil servants. This literate class collaborated with the Empire in ways that allowed a handful of British bureaucrats to rule the vast area of Sudan. But in many ways there was ambivalence and suspicion of each others motives, and feelings of frustrated ambition on the side of the Sudanese. The British used their own racial and imperial prejudices in selecting Arabic speaking groups and families to draw into this class and excluded Southerners and others they termed "detribalized blacks". In doing so they influencing the class's ideas of itself and their environment, and shaped their very narrow vision of the future post colonial nation. A national vision that proved to be as elitist, statist and unable to incorporate the reality of a diverse and complex Sudan. It is this central lack of vision that lies at the heart of the Sudan's failure to build an inclusive nation. It is a sad commentary that the same elite still sees itself as a conduit for propagating western civilization, in the form of such alien ideologies as "secularism", to an essentially savage nation.

As a product of this class I am amazed to realize just how narrow this class has remained. Again and again I recognized the actors in this book as being the grandparents of my colleges and friends. In the mid-eighties my educated parents convinced me to withdraw from an English university and return to matriculate at The University of Khartoum. It has been one of the most profound decisions I have ever made.

A must-get book for any Adams' enthusiast

If you want 400 finely reproduced photographs of the oeuvre of one of the greatest black and white photographers, Ansel Adams, then you must get this book. The photographs are reproduced with the fine attention to detail, shadow and contrast that Adams would have demanded. It was amazing to see his first photographs of Yosemite when he was 14 years old. Turning each page, one stumbles across photographs one has forgotten or never seen, or those one can never forget. Even though the book could have been just a little bit bigger, it is a nice size to fit on your lap without breaking your arms. This is a must-get book for any Adams' enthusiast.

Almost perfect, were it not because of...

the size. This book is about the size of 8x11, so it's not a large coffee table book size. What it lacks in area size, it makes it up in the number of great photos, all 400 of them.

I also own the Yosemite and the Range of Light, one of Ansel Adams most highly acclaimed publication printed back in the 70's. I compared the two books. The 400 uses a whiter paper stock. Many of the photos in the 400 look different from the Range of Light. Some have more contrast, some have less. It is sort of like a slightly different interpretation. I closely compared a couple of the photos, in one case, I found the 400 has more shadow details in the deep shadow area, but the Range of Light counterpart has more emotional impact; the larger size may have to do with the emotional part. In another case,the 400 has less overall contrast, and a lot more shadow information comparing to the Range of Light, and I like the 400 interpretation better.

This book is a must have for Ansel Adams follower.

A Great Source of Ideas for Amateur Photographers!

"Ansel Adams: 400 Photographs" covers his work from the 1920s through the 1960s, organized chronologically into the largest compilation ever published of his work. Over one-third of the photos took place in the Sierra Nevada mountains - his favorite area. Adams was able to transform geographic reality into moving emotional experiences. Though a passion for the preservation of the natural world guided his photographs, he also included photos of buildings and an occasional individual. Close-ups and long-views, sunny and cloudy days - all were mastered by Adams.

I particularly like to look at these photos before going out with my camera - helps generate ideas.

Excellent resource for anesthesia providers. For anyone that works at a Level 1 Trauma Center I would highly recommend this book. Dr. Smith covers every single facet of the management of trauma patients in a thorough yet concise, readable, and practical format.

first reputable book on repairable systems

This book by Ascher is one of the earliest to concentrate on this topic. Even today there are few books on the topic. Rigdon's new book is more current. This book is referenced by Nelson in his text on recurrent events and I believe that Nelson analyzed data taken from Ascher's book.
Good first introduction but you may prefer Rigdon's book as it should be much more up-to-date.
